Future Generation Art Prize - call now open

I’m writing you about the Future Generation Art Prize, an award for emerging artists launched in 2009 by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation in Kiev, Ukraine. The Future Generation Art Prize is a worldwide contemporary art prize to discover, recognize and give long-term support to a future generation of artists.

 

The last edition of the prize in 2017 received over 4,500 applications from over 130 countries, and its 21 shortlisted artists participated in a special exhibition in Kiev. The winner of the $100.000 prize was Dineo Seshee Bopape (South Africa) and the winner of the $20,000 Special Prize was Phoebe Boswell (Kenya/Great Britain). After the great success of the fourth edition, we are pleased to launch the fifth edition of the prize, which will culminate with an exhibition of the shortlisted artists in Kiev in February 2019 and in Venice, Italy, in conjunction with the 58th Venice Biennale in May 2019.

 

Artists around the world under the age of 35 may enter the competition through an open call online application available in ten languages, but the application and selection process is also largely driven by collaborative partnerships with contemporary art organizations around the world—our “partner platforms” help us spread the word about the prize in regional networks and recommend up to ten applicants from their region who we then promote to the second round of the selection process.

 

We aim to build on the successes of previous years by delivering the biggest and most democratic art prize in the world. We would like to invite you to join us as a partner platform and help launch the Future Generation Art Prize 2019 in your community. Central to the partner platform collaboration is a mutual promotion: we ask that you promote the Future Generation Art Prize on your website, through your social media platforms, and by word of mouth in your community, and encourage your local artists to apply for this important recognition by suggesting us up to 10 artists, and in turn we will pass your recommended artists to the second round selection and list your organization on our website as a partner platform with your name, location, and website linked.

 

The application will be open for three months online beginning this April 2018.

 

After the application period, the Selection Committee will shortlist twenty artists for an exhibition at the Pinchuk Art Centre in Kiev, which will be judged by an International Jury. The Jury will then award one main prize of $100,000 and one special prize of $20,000. Please visit our website for more information: http://www.futuregenerationartprize.org/.
