L’élaboration de cette recherche s’est caractérisée suite à un intérêt porté à l’installation dans l’espace des Grandes Antilles. Nous avons voulu présenter les conditions d’insularité des cinq îles auxquelles nous nous sommes intéressés. Ainsi dans une première partie nous avons réalisé une approche en montrant et situant dans un contexte géopolitique un ensemble de phénomènes humains et culturels, passés et actuels, qui composent une surface de réflexion où sont absorbées les œuvres. Puis nous nous sommes intéressés aux pratiques de l’installation de plus de vingt artistes des zones concernées en montrant en quoi leur travail relève d’une esthétique du métissage.

CASE STUDY. AN AESTHETIC OF METISSAGE
The development of this research has been characterized as a result of interest in installation, within the space of the Greater Antilles. We wished to present the conditions of insularity of the five islands which we have been interested in. Thus in a first part, we have made an approach showing and placing in a geopolitical context, a set of human and cultural phenomena, past and present, which compose a “reflection surface” where artworks are absorbed. Then, we took an interest in installation practices of over twenty artists of the concerned areas by showing how their work is of an aesthetic of métissage.
