13 years already! Contemporary art From our shores to the world...
Autour des travaux Fabienne Viala (Warwick University - Angleterre), sur les thèmes de la Mémoire et de la Réparation en art, trois intervenants ont engagé le dialogue avec de la chercheuse universitaire devant un public venu nombreux: Frédéric Scheider (Psychiatre) ainsi que les artistes Thierry Alet et Joëlle Ferly.

La salle de la médiathèque affichait complet lors de la rencontre avec la professeure Fabienne Viala. La chercheuse finissait sa résidence à L'Artocarpe, durant laquelle elle a pu échanger avec les membres, d'une part, mais surtout rencontré de nombreux acteurs du monde de la culture, qui lui ont ouvert leurs portes.
L'Artocarpe tient à remercier tous ceux et celles, qui se sont rendus disponibles pour échanger avec Fabienne Viala, et plus particulièrement Madame Régine Jasor, Madame Léna Blou, Mr Jean-Luc Romana, Mr Frédéric Scheider, Mr Thierry Alet ainsi que les membres de L'Artocarpe (François Piquet, Jean-Claude Periama, Florence Poirier NKPA, Hélène Valenzuela...) et non-membres.
L'Artocarpe remercie également notre partenaire, La Médiathèque du Moule et toute son équipe technique.
L'association Lanmou By Yo envisage de réinviter Madame Viala d'ici la fin de l'année, afin d'approfondir les échanges lors de la rencontre internationale* qui se tiendra sous le titre de: Route de L'Esclave, Itinéraires pour réconcilier histoire et mémoire du 10 au 13 Décembre 2014.

Avec le soutien de la DAC Guadeloupe (Direction des Affaires Culturelles) et d’autres financements privés, Florence POIRIER-NKPA s’installe en résidence d’artiste à L’Artocarpe pour un mois.

(English Translation at the end) AU PROGRAMME de la résidence
Le projet « De Cadres…encadre » consiste à intégrer dans l’espace urbain et naturel du Moule en Guadeloupe, une première série de 4 encadrements artistiques. Avec 4 couleurs différentes (voir plus selon l’évolution du projet) ils souligneront la réalité : - telle qu'elle fut pour se souvenir et/ou voir ce qu’il y a à voir,
- telle qu'elle pourrait être pour rêver et la sublimer,
- telle qu’elle est, pour servir de guide aux passants,
- telle qu'elle devrait être ou ne pas être pour respecter la vie et son environnement.
C’est un projet de Land Art et de Street Marketing à la fois, qui s'adresse à tous.
Etant déjà avancé d’un point de vue théorique, il s’agit pour moi de développer la partie artistique et pratique du projet. Ceci en fabriquant des prototypes afin de confronter le projet à la réalité de sa mise en œuvre.

En cours de résidence, je prévois de proposer des rencontres ouvertes : aux artistes, aux institutions artistiques, au public du Moule et aux membres de l’Artocarpe, pour exposer le projet et échanger sur sa pertinence, son avancement et ses conditions de faisabilités.
Enfin, une fois les prototypes réalisés il faudra les mettre en situation, prendre des photographies et concrétiser le projet pour qu’il puisse se développer de façon temporaire ou pérenne sur différents territoires caribéens.
Je prévois de faire une inauguration officielle des espaces où seront implantés les cadres au Moule (de façon temporaire) en janvier ou février 2015…
The PROGRAM for the residence
The project « De cadre…encadrent » consists of integrating a first series of 4 artistic frames in the urban and natural space of the city of Moule in Guadeloupe. Thanks to 4 different colours (or more according to the evolution of the project) these frames will emphasize reality :
- as it was, to remember and/or see what has to be seen,
- as it could be, to dream about it and embellish it,
- as it is, to guide the passers-by,
- as it should be, or as it should not be, to respect life and its surroundings.
It is both a project of Land Art and Street Marketing which is aimed at everyone.
Now that the theoretical part is nearly accomplished, I need to develop the artistic and practical parts of the project by creating prototypes in order to evaluate the reality of the creation of the project.

Within the residence, in order to exhibit the project and discuss about its relevance, its evolution, and the conditions of its feasibility, I plan to offer open meetings : to the artists, the artistic institutions, the general public of Moule and the members of l’Artocarpe.
Finally, to materialize the project and develop it temporarily or perennially on different Caribean territories, the prototypes will be settled in the space of the city of Moule and photographs will be taken.

Please find below our fees as well as some information on how to be considered for a residence. Note that only application for Self-financed artist will currently be considered as all our fund for inviting an artist have now been allocated until end of 2015.

L’Artocarpe has two types of residency :
Either you come as a self-financed artist, with your own budget or sponsor
- (SF - self-financed),
- or as invited artist (IVTD - Invited artists) that we choose to invite through the budget secured by one of our partner
See enclosed our rates for 2015 for artist coming with their own budget.
To be invited by us takes much longer as we first need to secure funding from our partners. Our partner only deliver one residency a year. Funds have now already been attributed for our 2015 program. Only artist coming with their own fund will be considered for this year.
Self-financed bookings work on the first-booked-first-served basis. You need to be first accepted by our art committee. Bookings have already started for 2015. To secure booking, you will need to pay your residency in full.
Self-financed residency also means that you will be responsible for all your personal costs: travel, insurance, visa, meals, transportation, material, equipment.
Please note that in both cases, there is an additional fee of administration to be paid to L'Artocarpe in order to ensure that you are covered by our insurance while on site. Please note however that you will need to get your own health insurance with medical repatriation to conclude your agreement with L'Artocarpe.
Once a member of L'Artocarpe, you will be in part of our rich network of contacts, throughout the Caribbean, Europe, Africa and the rest of the world.
Portfolio submission : there is no standard form !
Please note that your application will be assessed by our art committee.
Just email elements of your practice that clearly define what you do, what you have done so far with a CV and a description of what you would like to do while in residence. You just need to give us a rough idea of your need for equipment and material, detailing what you do (painting, photography ...) in order for us to assess the possibility to accommodate your need for the studio.
As we recognise the importance of experimentation, we do not require that you finalise your project prior to start the residency, as it is often expected today in other institutions! We shall just ask you to run open day studio to engage with the public, and present the extend of your research, practice in a talk to present yourself to local artists. You are however welcome to plan an exhibition, workshop, a sale and any other event that you would like to run. L'Artocarpe will put you in touch with our relevant partners (gallery, library...) to enable you to do so, should need be.
Do not forget to clearly state the period you wish to come as well as the list of material (equipment, tools, type of space etc) that you require. You are encouraged to give us flexible dates, so as to have greater chances to secure a residency.
Other that the quality of your work, the latter elements will determine whether or not we are in the position to answer your needs.
